Dr. Baxter has a wide variety of interests and research experience in sociology. Recent publications include quantitative work on the social impact of offshore oil exploration and two papers on the effects of housing foreclosure on neighborhood change in New Orleans. Recent theoretical work includes a paper on honor, status, and economic exchange that grew out of prior research on workplace violence in the U.S. post office. A future book is planned about honor as a sociological concept.

Dr. Baxter's Recent course offerings include Social Organization, Social Change, Research Methods, Seminar in Research Applications, and the Sociology of Popular Culture. Dr. Baxter also teaches a regular graduate seminar in Complex Organizations and an occasional seminar in Urban Sociology.
