Rachel E. Luft's primary areas of research specialization are Race, Gender, and Social Movements. Currently she is studying grassroots responses to Hurricane Katrina, focusing on racial justice community organizing strategies, the politicization of displaced people, and volunteer solidarity politics. Dr. Luft draws on intersectionality theory, critical race theory, critical whiteness studies, and feminist theory in her teaching and research. Before coming to UNO, Dr. Luft taught in Sociology and/or Women's Studies Departments at UC Santa Barbara, San Francisco State University, and Montana State University, Bozeman.
